Since 2023, Jianze has collaborated with Finnish designer Ville Kokkonen on the Chinese Bamboo Research Project, focusing on bamboo species native to China with distinctive aesthetics and superior structural properties, while continuously exploring their craft potential. In partnership with woodcraft master Yin Hongqiang from Jiangyin, the project has rigorously tested the viability of Zong Zhu as a frame system. After extensive experimentation, the Zhú Stool was unveiled at MATTER and SHAPE 2026—featuring a Zong Zhu frame joined by mortise-and-tenon connections and a seat surface hand-woven from Moso bamboo strips and paper cord.
