Rong丨Multi-functional Container
In Chinese, Rong stands for container and integration. 2025.05.24
When the name "Rong" is about to be uttered,

what comes to mind?

How can ceramic objects become more inclusive?
How to fold more functions and viewing possibilities into a simply shaped vessel,
so that it can effortlessly blend into the complex and ever-changing daily scenarios?

No distinction between top and bottom, reversing boundaries.

Breaking the conventional understanding of object orientation, Rong eliminates the division between top and bottom. Each Rong can reverse its function by simply changing its placement direction.

Rong 01

When the wide opening faces upwards, it serves as a wine glass; when reversed, it can hold long a candle.

Rong 02

When placed upright, it can be combined with a fragrance strip to form a diffuser bottle, and can also be used as a wine vessel, water cup, or vase. When reversed, the more indented bottom design compared to regular containers can accommodate scented candles or tower-shaped incense.

Rong 03 & Rong 04

Larger in size and with a more substantial feel, the latter features a sphere in the middle of the bottle body, enhancing its decorative appeal when used as a candle holder or flower vessel.

The above are just examples of usage from Jianze. There are more functions and combination possibilities temporarily housed within, with "usage" becoming the second creation of Rong.

Elegant overlapping, the beauty of playfulness.

Simple and fundamental design languages such as semicircles and curves allow Rong to blend smoothly into various styles and scenarios.

The ingenious diameter design enables different Rongs to fit together perfectly. When arranged in combination, they are maintained by an inherent geometric connection, creating a harmonious visual rhythm in space.

Color derived from clay, simple and natural.

The Rong series employs colored clay craftsmanship. Compared to glazed colors, it better showcases the texture of the clay and presents a more gentle, pure, and elegant color palette after high-temperature firing.

The colored clay incorporates particles made from natural mineral crystals. These give Rong its unique "noise," rich layers, and enhanced texture, making each Rong truly one-of-a-kind and irreproducible.

From design to handmade creation, a work of heart and soul.

ATELIER ERRANCE

Founded by designer Huang Yijie and artist Chen Xiang in France and now based in Shanghai, ERRANCE draws inspiration from everyday life. It continuously breaks boundaries in cross-disciplinary creations, stimulating the inherent tension between art and design.

ERRANCE's works often evoke a rediscovery of life and self during the processes of "viewing, touching, and using." The Rong series, designed by them for Jianze, also follows this philosophy.

Mold making, mineral crystal firing, colored clay mixing, greenware trimming, polishing, high-temperature firing, temperature and humidity control—these complex and interwoven processes, distinct from industrial production, are all closely supervised by the ERRANCE studio. Their almost "obsessive" pursuit of detail ensures that each finished Rong is as close to flawless as possible.

Open and inclusive Rong
is like a poem of objects.
With its minimalist still-life form,
it responds to diverse lifestyles.
