After a While
Jianze POP-UP in Shanghai 2025.10.13

Turning from the noisy Huaihai Middle Road into Lane 1984, and strolling along the narrow alley to No. 15, you arrive at The Sectional – a cutting-edge art and lifestyle space nestled within a small Western-style house. Its expansive floor-to-ceiling windows act like an invisible frame, gently framing the Jianze original design pop-up shop here and now.

The Joint series, created by studiososlow for Jianze, makes its offline debut. Basic geometric modules like circles, triangles, and rectangles are combined into a stable furniture system, guided by custom-produced metal connectors. On the walls, all components are disassembled into their smallest units and sorted, becoming three-dimensional decorative art that also echoes the inspiration of exploded-view diagrams.

The Pine-Pine Sofa, single-seater in the Green Pine version paired with Cedar-colored soft padding, creates a habitable landscape indoors. The natural pine forest transforms into rounded, full volumetric units that can be easily separated, moved, and expanded to match different usage scenarios.

The Noon Mirror, stretched from the Jianze brand symbol "0", is presented through a fusion of colored wood and ultra-clear mirror surface. The half-length version hangs on the wall like a window frame, while the full-length version leans playfully beside it, dispersing a fashionable atmosphere into daily life.

The Yǎng Chair displays three prototypes from its 18-month development process, showcasing the trajectory of a chair gradually taking form through continuous refinement of details. The wood grain, seat surface, beam, and joints have all undergone significant changes, while the lightweight backrest was ultimately realized using German 3D veneer technology, supporting the user to sit more easily and comfortably.

On the wall behind one black Qiáo Chair and two stacked natural wood versions, Jianze publicly shares, for the first time, the design sketches and development notes of Finnish industrial designer Ville Kokkonen. Viewers can gain insight into the master's thought process during design.

The Wafer Table in the 1.4-meter version is also presented offline for the first time, demonstrating the small long table's suitability for interiors of singles, shared rentals, or small families. The legs distributed at the four corners and the lightweight structure allow it to comfortably serve as a dining table, desk, etc., while saving space.

Rong pieces of different forms and colors gather together, including the newly released limited edition pink version. This vessel can be placed both upright and inverted, its function changing accordingly, freely defined by the user.

With tree shadows swaying, the Blossom Sofa in the Venner version, situated under the glass ceiling, exclusively uses high-quality fabrics from the century-old American textile brand Maharam. This marks the series' first offline appearance, offering visitors a fresh and plush afternoon respite experience.

When we immerse ourselves in the concept of "Jian" (间), are we facing unchanging space or flowing time? "Jian" represents both the physical intervals between objects and the subtle moments in time. We invite the audience to linger in this specific temporal and spatial "in-between", rediscovering the multifaceted meaning of 间—as both a spatial interval and a temporal gap, as well as the delicate connection between living and expression.

"After a While" is presented by the Chinese home design brand Jianze (间则), whose name draws from this concept of "Jian". Since its launch in 2021, Jianze has brought together diverse design forces from both domestic and international sources, committed to providing inclusive and sustainable home solutions for the younger generation. The brand aims to make home life a relaxed, free, and personally expressive experience—finding beauty in the "in-between".

Welcome to this realm between time and space, and spend a moment that belongs to you in the world of "Jian".

This "After a While" event not only presents finished products but also wishes to share with you the complete journey from inspiration to final object. You are welcome to visit in person, to touch, feel, and deeply explore the ingenuity and persistence behind each original design.
