Jianze at 3daysofdesign
The journey of inspiration never ends. 2024.06.22

From June 12th to 14th this year, Jianze participated in 3daysofdesign and launched five new product series—Qiáo, Palette, Pinch, Puzzle, and Rong—as well as the bamboo research project in collaboration with Ville Kokkonen, at the Lapidarium of Kings museum in Copenhagen.

Zhú: Bamboo Research Project

The rapid growth characteristic of bamboo makes it a sustainable material that can replace hardwood. This research program aims to find bamboo in southern China that is suitable for handicraft processing and small-scale application in furniture making, and to test those species with unique, aesthetically pleasing appearance, and excellent structure and material quality.

Ville Kokkonen and various Chinese bamboo materials

The project led by Ville Kokkonen together with Jianze involves collaboration with esteemed experts, including craft master Wang Rong Long and furniture master Yin Hong Qiang, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the best bamboo varieties and their applications in crafts and furniture production.

The findings will be compiled into a publication and demonstrated over the coming years to highlight the cultural and practical significance of bamboo in this region.

Summer Collection

Qiáo

In front of the quaint sculpture, on display is the Qiáo series designed by Ville Kokkonen for Jianze, which includes a side table and a chair. The Qiáo Chair is a stackable wooden chair with a backrest wrapped in soft ropes. Its slightly tapered legs make it appear more lightweight in the space. The Qiáo Coffee Table also applies the same design elements and production details, and when placed together, they can create a harmonious and coherent visual rhythm in the space.

Palette

The Palette Table Lamp, designed by studiososlow for Jianze, shares the exhibition stand with cultural relics in the museum. Composed of a semi-circular and a circular piece, it resembles a handheld palette, bringing fresh colors to the space.

Puzzle

The Puzzle series, designed by studiososlow for Jianze, is inspired by children's puzzle toys and the dovetail joint in Sun Mao (meaning mortise and tenon structures in Chinese).

The overlapping mud blocks deliberately highlight and enlarge the shape that represents the image of a dovetail, forming a geometric arrangement that appears mischievous and playful yet full of childlike interest.

Pinch

The Pinch series, designed by studiososlow for Jianze, draws its inspiration from the pure experience of pinching clay from childhood, integrating this joy into the design of the objects. Coffee cups, saucers, and salad bowls, in terms of shape, seem to be pasted together as if pinching clay, creating a mimetic tactile sensation from simple elevations.

Rong

The Rong series of tableware is designed by Atelier Errance for Jianze. With its simple round curves and soft colors, the Rong series exudes inclusiveness and approachability at first glance. By changing the direction of placement, it can switch between a flower vase and a candle holder, blending into the versatile reality of everyday life.

*The ceramic works will be officially released this autumn.

Jianze continuously establishes diverse dialogues with original designs, exploring self-expression in home life with you, new inspiration, and it never stops.
